This morning we were met with beautiful weather and HUMPBACK WHALES only one and a half miles from the entrance. We also were able to see birds feeding on bait fish, SEA OTTERS, and lots of SEA LIONS. We even saw a Humpback whale breach out side of us!!!! The bait seems to be moving in so we will likely see an increase of Humpback whales moving in close!!

Whale Watching:August 28th

On this mornings whale watching trip, we were about a mile out when we came across a feeding frenzy. There were Sea Lions, Pelicans, Cormorants, and Common Dolphins surrounding and feeding on the bait ball. It was super exciting, especially because the Common Dolphins rode our bow wakes. We continued to search for the whales after coming across the feeding frenzy. The captain saw whales in the distance, but unfortunately they were elusive. While heading in, a pod of Dalls Porpoises came up to the boat and rode the bow wakes for a good ten to fifteen minutes. Still a great trip overall.

August 19, 2010

We had one trip today departing at 9:00 A.M. We covered a lot of ground, and we saw only a glimpse of a Minke Whale. The sea state was a little sloppy and occasional fog banks. We returned to the area where we saw the Blue Whales yesterday, but they were gone. Maybe they went around the block and they'll be back tomorrow.

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Today we saw 2 FIN WHALES, 6 BLUE WHALES AND DAHL'S PORPOISE. The whales were 7 miles SW of Morro Bay. We only ran the one trip but it looked like a beautiful afternoon. We are running tomorrow at 9:00. There were spaces available when I went home. The forecast is the same for the next few days so we should have great trips.

Whales, whales, whales!!

Thursday 8/12/10 This afternoon on the way out we saw a space shuttle escape pod drill! A huge helicopter carried the pod to 14,000 ft and released it. It came floating down with 3 giant orange parachutes and splashed in the water. We spotted a BLUE WHALE for a while and saw several spouts in the distance.

Thursday 8/12/10 9:00 am trip. We saw the spouts and were just about to the whales, 6 miles SW of Morro Bay, when the Coast Guard boat came along side and ordered us to leave the area because of a drill. We were unable to find other whales. Return passes were issued.

Wednesday 8/11/10 We saw whales on both trips.

Monday's Whale Trips

Morning Trip:
On our morning trip we went out about ten miles. We found at least a dozen humpback whales, along with a large group of sea lions feeding with the whales. Also off in the distance were a couple of blue whales feeding. The weather was great, and the water was calm. All in all, it was another awesome trip.

Afternoon Trip:
On the afternoon trip we went out about seven and a half miles. We found about twenty humpbacks, that were having a blast breaching. The crew also found a group of blue whales that were feeding with the humpbacks. The weather was beautiful, and the water was calm just as it was on the first trip. Another great whale watching adventure.

Sunday's Whale Trips

Morning Trip:
Yesterday, while making our way south; our crew found four blue whales, and a pod of common dolphins. Also spotted during the trip was an albatross. The weather was amazing, and the water was calm and glassy. The blue whales put on a great show, as did the dolphins. Overall it was another excellent trip.

Afternoon Trip:
The weather was also exceptional on our second whale trip. The water remained calm and glassy as it had been on the first. Despite our crews effort, we did not see any blue whales on this trip. We did however see a minke whale. Still a pretty good trip overall with the beautiful weather and calm sea state.

Thank you,

Kevin :]

On Wed Aug 4th the whales were out 9 miles to the south west. We saw both BLUE WHALES and HUMPBACKS. On the afternoon trip we got skunked on the whales and the weather was a little sloppy :=(.

Today we ran out to the sw area and up to Church Rock. We covered a lot of ground but came up empty on the whales. We did see some sea lions, sea otters, an albatross and several the sea birds.

On the 1:00 trip we ran up to the NW and saw several bait balls with birds working. A dozen common dolphins were spotted and also a shark that was either a great white or a salmon shark. Again we covered a lot of ground and came up empty.

Still calm and lots of whales!!!

We had another banner day with the WHALES. A big group of whales,
both BLUE AND HUMPBACK, are still milling around in front of Morro Bay feeding on krill. We ran 3 trips today and they were all awesome, with multiple whales on each trip. The weather was again calm and the forecast is for more of the same.

Whales everywhere!!

On Saturday we ran 3 trips. 9:00, 1:00 & 5:00. We had full limits of BLUE WHALES AND HUMPBACK WHALES ON EVERY RUN. It is as good as it gets right now on seeing the whales. We had several whales come to the boat on the 1:00 trip! Awesome!!
